A former S-pyrite-Cu-Pb occurrence/mine located in sec. 36, T1N, R4W, MDM, 1.8 km (1.1 miles; 6,000 feet) NNE of Berkeley proper (near Euclid Avenue and Cordonices Creek). Operated during the period 1925 to 1929. MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 1,000 meters.
Mineralization is hosted in the Pliocene Leona Rhyolite. The ore body is lenticular at a thickness of 5.49 meters. Controls for ore emplacement included fractures. The geology is similar to the Leona Heights Mine on the same ore zone. Pyrite is a major ore component. Coarse, crystalline 100 pound lumps of galena were found before 1914. Local rocks include Quaternary alluvium and marine deposits.
Local geologic structures include the Hayward Fault and two parallel smaller faults with horizontal displacement.
Workings include underground openings with a length of 1,524 meters.
Analytical data results: 1% Cu.
