A former U-Cu occurrence/mine located in the NW¼ sec. 14, T40N, R7E, G&SRM, 6.2 km (3.8 miles) NNE of Marble Canyon (town) and 2 miles WNW of Lees Ferry, on National Recreation Area land. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a channel deposit hosted in the Late Cretaceous Shinarump Member, that is a spoon-shaped offshoot from a much deeper and more pronounced channel. A bleached zone up to 3 or 4 feet thick occurs beneath host rock. U & Cu minerals are commonly localized in the lower parts of the host rock (Hermit shale), or on the sides of channels. Uraninite with pyrite and chalcopyrite occurs in calcite veinlets and oxidized U and Cu minerals coat pebbles and sand grains as well as impregnating carbonized wood. Local rocks include rocks of the Moenkopi Formation and/or Chinle Formation.
Workings include unspecified underground openings. Exploration was done by open cuts. A trench was excavated.
Some production was reported but resources are limited and low-grade. Production was 912 tons of ore @ 0.17% U3O8 (1956-1957), and 0.02-0.06% V2O5. 197 tons of 0.09% "no-pay" ore in 1957.
Analysis test results: 0.22% e U3O8; 0.19% U3O8; 0.06% V2O5; 1.18-6.80% CaCO3.
