An U-Cu occurrence/prospect located in the S½ sec. 34, T41N, R7E, G&SRM, 10.3 km (6.4 miles) N of Marble Canyon (town), on the W side of the Paria River, 1.5 miles NW of the Colorado River, on National Recreation Area land. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 100 meters.
Mineralization is an U-Cu deposit hosted in sandstone and Late Cretaceous mudstone. It is a vein-type deposit with a small, tabular ore body. The ore body is 0.46 meter thick, 6.1 meters wide and 6.1 meters long. The metallic minerals occur where sandstone is thick and contains black carbonaceous material. Sand grains are coated with U and Cu minerals within oxidized areas. Radiation levels are 200 x background. Local rocks include rocks of the Chinle Formation.
Small, discontinuous pods and stringers occur with secondary uranium minerals associated with carbonaceous matter and some copper staining in
thin sandstone beds of the Chinle Formation, possibly Petrified Forest Member of the Chinle Formation.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of trenches and short adits.
Production was 46 tons of ore @ 0.47% U3O8 (1954, 1956).
Analysis test results: 2.3% e U3O8; 2.4% U3O8 & up to 1% Cu.
