Ramco 21
A former U-V occurrence/claim/mine located in the E½NW¼ sec. 11, T27N, R10E, G&SRM, SSE of Cameron and E of Gray Mountain (town), 1.2 miles E of the Little Colorado River, in the USGS Wupatki NE quadrangle. The USGS MRDS database file states that the coordinates are for SW of two unlabeled mine symbols east of elevation 4250. The MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 10 meters.
Mineralization is an U-V deposit with uranium ore minerals with gangue species in lenses & pods hosted in mudstone and sandstone. The ore body is 30.48 meters wide and 182.88 meters long. Ore fills intraformational channels and scours within the upper 30 feet of the Shinarump and lower 60 feet of the Petrified Forest members of the Triassic Chinle formation. The ore tends to occur in depressions. Abundant carbonized plant remains are present. Montmorillonite clay was derived from volcanic ash. Associated rocks include Pleistocene-Late Triassic clay, mud and basalt. Oxidized uranium minerals occur in scour and fill channels trending NW and NE and in the lower Petrified Forest Member. Average thickness of ore was 2 feet and at a depth of about 36 feet. Local rocks include rocks of the Chinle Formation.
Workings include surface and underground openings comprised of 2 open pits, 600 X 150 X 40 ft. deep and 300 X 300 X 50 feet deep and one 100 foot adit and surface scrapings.
Production was 5,471 tons of ore @ 0.25% U3O8; 0.04% V2O5 (1956-1959).
