Hutton (1957) discovered kobeite crystals in a cobble while panning in the Paringa River for radioactive minerals. The graphic granite cobble contains crystals of the species, either slender and transparent, or alternatively stubby or irregular and dark brown. The crystals are coarsely striated. They show a sheaf like or radiating arrangement. The matrix showed coarse aggregates of oligoclase and microcline, rare quartz, epidote, muscovite and chlorite. The source of the material is unknown.
