Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

Oxford pegmatite field. May be the same site as Blackguard Mica Quarry.

King (2009) states that it is "on the west side of Blackguard Road, north of the former Blackguard School...a simple pegmatite...supposedly including quartz crystals, some of which contained amethyst." Opened in the 1950s perhaps, for feldspar. Using the USGS National Map lidar hillshade layer, no obvious cuts are visible on Burnell Hill. For now the coordinates are for the summit of the hill: 44.18532,-70.78704

On the EAST side of Blackguard Road, Morrill et al. (1958) reported an astonishing association of phenakite with amethyst, but the report is certainly wrong. There are no known phenakite on amethyst specimens from anywhere in the world. The quartz crystals do occasionally have tiny quartz crystals on large quartz crystals and may have been the origin of the mistake.
