Mine de Lescure, Mayres, Thueyts, Ardèche, Rhône-Alpes, France

A former lead and silver mine (started in 1808 and closed in 1951) located on a long quartz-baryte vein hosted in gneisses (several other veins are known around this main vein). This mine is famous for its big cerussite crystals (up to 10 cm) found during the 1990's in some abandonned tunnels. Today, all adits are collapsed or closed by concrete walls but some dumps remain.

The lead and silver mine of Lescure was worked in Roman times and there are documents from the late eighteenth century telling us about these mines. Although "serious" mining operations are confirmed from 1808-29 until its closure in 1951.
