Alteration: Pyritization Of Wallrock

Deposit: Probably most of the production was taken out through the lower adit, although there is practically no vein material on the dump. The wallrocks have a foliation of n20w, 55ne and are often cut by 1-5 cm white, barren(?) quartz veinlets which cut foliation at 90 degrees. The only mineralized vein was observed in a small adit at the crest of the ridge. There, a 10-15 cm wide zone contains limonite, cerussite, sparse quartz, and remnants of galena. A dump sample from an adit just to t-he east contains a piece of reddish sphalerite. Calcite veinlets are noted on dumps, but appear barren of ore minerals, although they are usually in pyritized wallrock. It appears that the dump sampled contains mainly oxidized vein matter; this vein has an attitude of n40e, 75se. Possibly the deeper production was sulfide material. Sphalerite and small amounts of galena occur in fissure in calcareous shale of the harmony formation. The vein can be traced along a strike a distance of 135 ft. From the main adit to a trench. Four samples gave a weighted average of 1.4% lead, 22.1% zinc, and 0.67 oz. Silver per ton, over an average width of 1.5 ft. ; info.src : 1 pub lit; 3 field observ
