A hydrothermal lead-zinc deposit hosted within limestone, sandstone, and shale of the Devonian Wuzhishan formation. These lithologies are locally intruded by granites and some lamprophyre dykes. The deposit straddles the boundary between Yangshuo and Gongcheng counties and is jointly exploited by the Yangshuo and Daoping mines, whose underground workings have been interconnected since 2003. As the two mines are generally regarded in China as a single mining operation, the precise provenance of specimens such as pyromorphite is commonly uncertain, and material recovered since that date may be most appropriately attributed to the Yangshuo–Daoping mines.

Plumbogummite has been designated as unconfirmed. According to Ottens (2014), all specimens labelled and marketed as originating from the Yangshuo-Daoping mines actually came from the Laohuan mine. See also the related discussion on the Mindat messageboard:
