Structure: Shear Zone (N Trending, W Dipping)

Deposit: First located in 1941, and being developed in 1943, worked intermittently in 1950's. Mine workings include a 110-foot inclined shaft and about 250 feet of drifts and raises on 3 levels. Map gq-820 shows hillside mine in s W corner se. 6 t28n r35e - see king george mine ; info.src : 1 pub lit this record has been merged with m055269, which has been deleted. Latitude and longitude of deleted record are 40-19-60n and 118-05-18w, but does not match other verifiable sources. Mineralized zone traced on surface for 950 ft; underlying limestone warrants further exploration (1943). Deeper ore consisted of cinnabar in calcite veinlets in the limestone. Locally, some of the limestones are silicified and contain nodules of opal.

Deposit type: Hot-spring Hg

Development: Was being developed in 1943, and worked intermittently in the 1950's through early 1970's. Limestone below warrants further exploration. Worked together with cinnabar city after 1953.

Geology: Limestone is overlain by basalt flow and interbedded ash & tuff. Cinnabar occurs As stringers and disseminated crystals in shear zone in volcanic rocks and also As bunches, stringers, and veinlets erratically distributed along calcite stringers in the underlying limestone.

Rock formation(s): Natchez Pass Formation
