Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Quartz vs. Asagiite
It's a classic vs a newbie as the most common named mineral in the crust Quartz is up against an exceedingly-rare sea foam-green mineral discovered just a few years ago Asagiite.

Excellent vibrant green fluorite, partly covered with thin sugary quartz crusts appeared on the market in 2004 although specimens are known from the region from the 1970s (Johannesburg Geology Museum collection). Yellow, yellow-green, purple, pale green and colourless phantom crystals have also been found.
The quartz crusts only coats the fluorite whereas the associated matrix and quartz crystals remain uncoated, the crusts are usually (partly) dissolved with HF before they come on the market.

The cause of the beautiful green colour is unknown, it may be related to associated radioactive or rare-earth species, samples where tested and yielded surprising results; isotopes in the rare-earth element lanthanide series; lanthanum, ytterbium, cerium, neodymium, samarium, europium, gadolinium and holmium were detected although amounts were not determined.
