The Big Creek pyrite occurrence is an outcrop that is exposed along Big Creek in Parma Heights, Cuyahoga County. Van Horn and Van Horn (1935) and later Carlson (1991, p. 123, 2015, p. 225) noted that the outcrop was the Big Creek Valley, about 1-mile northeast of West 130th Street. The outcrop is about .1 miles to the west of US 42 (Stumph Road). The rocks exposed at the outcrop is the Devonian Cleveland Shale Member.
Frank R. Van Horn and Kent R. Van Horn (1933, p. 291) collected distorted cubes of pyrite at the outcrop, which resembled marcasite. Additional X-ray analysis revealed that the distorted crystals were in fact pyrite.
