Ottawa Stone Co. Quarry


A flooded quarry formerly operated by the Ottawa Stone Company. The rocks exposed in the quarry are identified as the Tycmochtee Dolomite and dolostones of the Salina Group (Carlson, 2015, p.186). The Gilboa Quarry is located near the village of Gilboa in section 27 in Blanchard Township.

The Gilboa Quarry has been re-purposed into a park for scuba divers. Underwater artifacts include a Grumman airplane and a Sikorsky helicopter. The greatest depth of the quarry is 130 feet.

Peter Zodac (1957) reported in Rocks and Minerals that purple fluorite crystals, measuring up to 1 mm, were found in the quarry.
