A former surface and underground Au-Ag-Pb-Cu mine located at the eastern brink of Agua Fria Canyon, about 4 miles east of Bumble Bee and 9 miles from Cordes, eastern foot of the Bradshaw Mountains at 3,500 feet of altitude. Discovered 182. Owned by Richinbar Mines Co. (1905-1908: extensive development work); and, Sterling Gold Mining Corp. (early 1933- ). Operated 1905-1948. Claims extend into the E½ of sec. 24, T9.5N, R2E.
Mineralization is comprised of 2 parallel veins that pinch and swell abruptly to about 30 feet wide and strike north while dipping almost vertically westward & occurs principally in schist. Gangue consists mostly of coarse, massive, glassy quartz with some tourmaline and carbonate. Schist wallrock is considerably sericitized and locally contains limonite pseudomorphs after pyrite. Most ore mined was from 3 irregular, lenticular, vertical oreshoots. An associated rock unit is the Bland Quartz Diorite. Ore control was faulting and shearing.
Area structures include foliation in Precambrian country rock that trends N-S.
Workings feature the Zyke shaft (main shaft) at 500 feet deep that connects with several thousand feet of workings extending northward plus two more shafts accessing upper workings. A 20-stamp mill waqs erected. The largest stope is on the 140 level at 65 feet long by 55 feet high and 14 feet wide. Produced some 8,000 tons of ore.
