The Box Canyon claims are located about 3 ½ miles west of Lemitar in the south end of the Lemitar Mountains at about 5,725 feet elevation. The claims consist of at least three trenches and a shallow shaft. The country rock on the dump piles is a mostly Proterozoic diorite and mineralization is sparse.

Heft (et al., 2022) summarized Lasky (1932) which “first mentioned small galena-barite fissure-filling veins in the Proterozoic rocks and in limestones along the unconformity between the Proterozoic rocks and Paleozoic sedimentary rocks in the district. Carbonate-hosted replacement lead-zinc deposits are found in the Kelley Limestone at the Box Canyon mine, similar to but much smaller than the carbonate-hosted replacement lead-zinc deposits in the Magdalena district to the southwest.”

In 2025, pieces of skeletonized quartz containing tiny weathered crystals of galena and occasionally hemimorphite were found near the shaft. In the eastern trench, a narrow zone of barite is exposed and one can find micro crystals of barite, quartz, weathered galena and occasional small vugs with micro hemimorphite crystals. No fluorite was found.
