A former surface and underground Ag-Au-Cu mine. Discovered by the Stevens Brothers in 1875. Produced 1910-1946.
Mineralization is an irregular ore body. Associated rock units are the Morenci Granite Porphyry and Precambrian granite basement. Ore control is a NE-trending fissure vein forming prominent ridge and extensive surface outcrops. Ore concentration is mineralization along fissure vein forming irregular ore bodies and banded deposits. Alteration is minor. Some surface oxidation whereby granite host rock is altered by limonite.
Area structures include NE-trending quartzitic fissure veins connected with porphyry dikes; block faulting NE of Copper King Mountain. Vein in quartzitic dike associated with nearby Morenci Granite Porphyry stock.
Tectonic component is the transition zone between the Basin and Range and Colorado Plateau Provinces.
