Bjerkåsholmen locality is protected by law as a Geological Nature Heritage Site (Geologisk Naturminne), being the reference- and typelocality for the lower Ordovician Bjerkåsholmen Formation.
All collection of rocks is strictly forbidden in the Nature heritage site!
The minerals are found in concretions in the limestone and shale beds of the Bjørkåsholmen Formation.
