El Matador Beach is a rocky pocket beach in western Malibu & part of Robert H. Meyer Memorial State Beach. The locality consists of an elevated wave-cut coastal terrace, ~100-ft sea cliffs, sandy beach & prominent offshore→shoreline bedrock outcrops forming sea stacks, arches, caves & reefs.
The site exposes Miocene sedimentary rocks dominated by sandstone with lesser conglomerate & mudstone, overlain by Pleistocene nonmarine deposits. Bluff faces consist mainly of sandstone & sandstone-conglomerate, with conglomerate particularly evident near the bluff base. Ongoing wave erosion, weathering, runoff & rockfall continue to modify the cliffs & isolated bedrock masses.
