A former underground Cu mine located in sec. 34, T4S, R19E, on the north side of Little Stanley Butte, 1.5 miles W of Stanley, on Indian ceded lands. Discovered 1882. Produced 1917.
Mineralization is lenticular & irregular orebody(ies) 1.22 meters wide, striking N-S and dipping vertically, hosted in shale, sandstone and andesite. Visible portions of the veins are in andesite. Structure is the intersection of two veins striking N20°W and N20°E. An associated rock unit is granite.
The principal development on the Copper Range group of claims. Most of the development work was done from 1870 to 1907. Only one carload of ore (18 tons) had been shipped out. Reported to be about 2000 feet (609 meters) of underground workings. The main tunnel is about 1400 feet long and above it are some short tunnels and shafts. The ore contains up to 20-30% Cu.
