Historic gold mine, now converted to wetlands.

Slade and Party took out the lease when the goldfield was declared and mined the deposit 1894 to mid 1897. The lease overed some 16 acres. At this point the mine was purchased by the United Anglo Australian Exploration Company, which spent large amounts on new equipment. Too much water and too little gold was found, and the equipment was sold in 1900.

The local council complained in 1902 that the mine had open shafts near the road and these were a danger to pedestrians. In 1903 the company abandoned the lease, and it was taken up by a syndicate of local West Wyalong residents - Fusker or Frisken, Doyle, Tully and others. Former Adelong tributors took possession of the mine in 1906 however, three days later it was reported that there was a dispute amongst them and no more mining is recorded.

Early reports note honeycombed quartz carrying gold, quartzite formations, and at deeper levels arsenopyrite (and possibly other sulphides).

In 1896, James Bulter and Samuel Unwin died when they drilled into dynamite underground that then exploded. A four day inquiry found no-one to blame, and then added the contradictory rider that managers should have greater control over miners in this situation and that primers be used. It was standard for an inquiry to be launched upon the death of a miner at work, and the result was nearly always no-one was responsible. There was no legal obligation to follow an inquiry recommendation and they were generally ignored.
