Tectonics: San Juan Basin

Deposit: The ore occurs as a blanket of nodules capping a knoll. The nodules are so abundant the whole summit is conspicuously black. They vary from 1/4 to 1-1/2 in. In diameter.

Geology: The cuba manganese district is the only locality in the state where the manganese formed either during or immediately after deposition of the host rock.
