A surface placer gold deposit area located in secs. 14, 16, and 22, T14S, R28E, and secs. 27, 29, 31 through 34, T14S, R27E, near the village of Dos Cabezas, at over 5,000 feet of altitude. Discovered 1901. Produced 1906-1914, 1934-1936. Closed 1947.

Mineralization is a placer gold deposit with concentration due to mechanical enrichment of heavy elements. A sampling of gravels to a depth of 6 feet assayed $4.08/Cubic yard ($35 US/Troy ounce Au [about 0.11 TO Au per CY]).

Gold was found in nearly all the canyons around Dos Cabezas. Alluvium in small streams draining an area of Au (Ag-base metal) vein deposits along the southwest flank of the Dos Cabezas Mountains. The veins are associated with a major fault zone. Gravels extend to at least a depth of 6 feet and are located in gulches and on pediments. The gold is usually flat, ragged, and coarse. Nuggets ranged from 1 to 20 ounces in size.

Location 1 LOCATED NORTH AND NORTHEAST OF DOS CABEZAS.
