The following summary is based on “A Major New Fluorite Find at the Blanchard Mine,” published in Rocks & Minerals, vol. 100, no. 1.:
In about 1995, Michael R. Sanders (Albuquerque, New Mexico) was contacted about a promising new cavity at the Blanchard Mine by Ramon S. DeMark (Albuquerque, New Mexico), though DeMark was living in Michigan at the time. DeMark had been told by another claim owner in the Hansonburg District about the cavity.
DeMark named it the Eagle's Nest Pocket and work began in 1996. The pocket was intermittently worked until it began to fizzle out in 2016. An attempt in 2022 produced no specimens. The pocket primarily produced specimens of purple fluorite with drusy quartz.
In March 2023, a southern section of the pocket wall was removed, which opened up the Ice Cream Igloo Pocket. Thus, this pocket is just north of the Ice Cream Igloo Pocket.
