The Quaker Farms Historic District is a historic district encompassing a small rural village on Quaker Farms Road (Connecticut Route 188). The area was first settled by English colonists in the 1600s.

Shepard (1837) mentions it ("Quaker's farm" or "farm-factory") three times as a locality for arsenopyrite (in one instance wrongly giving Southbury as the town). He provides no other details. He also mentions a lime kiln:

Quaker's Farm Kiln.—This quarry, situated a few miles above [Bassett's kiln on the Housatonic River in (then) Derby, but now in Ansonia], affords a pure limestone; but owing to the difficulty of raising it from its bed, it is now nearly abandoned.


Arsenopyrite has been reported in the marble beds flanking The Straits Schist in other areas of western Connecticut, including the Stevenson Mine in southern Oxford. The Straits Schist trends N-S just east of the Quaker Farms area.
