This volcano-sedimentary deposit is hosted within mid-Miocene lacustrine sediments, composed predominantly (60–90 %) of finely laminated claystones interbedded with subordinate amounts of variably altered tuff, tuffaceous siltstone, sandstone, and carbonate units. Lithium primarily occurs in Li-bearing clays, including trioctahedral Mg-smectite (hectorite), which are commonly associated with carbonates, amorphous silica, and zeolite. The deposit is estimated to contain up to 4.5 Mt in situ Li metal.
