A lead-zinc mine above Murray near the head of Wesp Gulch. The ore was found in a shear zone in dark gray banded argillite. The ore sometimes formed a discrete vein with quartz and other times replaced the wall rock. It was discovered in 1883 by J. Woods, W. Snyder, and P. Flynn. The property consisted of 29 unpatented claims; 34 patented claims. 7 unpatented claims belonging to John Green under lease and in 1968, 82 claims were added. Owned by the Terrible Edith Mining Company (years unstated) and Enterprising Engineers (1975). Terrible Edith was worked by Pontiac Land and Mineral Company in 1928. First production occurred in 1884. Workings comprised of 4 tunnels with over 13,000 feet of drifts and crosscuts in addition to many hundreds of feet of raises and winzes
Mineralization is a polymetallic deposit hosted in Pliocene-Neoproterozoic slate, quartzite and argillite. The ore body is irregular and stringers, strikes N15E and dips 55NW at a thickness of 3.05 meters, width of 45.72 meters and a length of 609.6 meters. Also, a fissure vein, replacement body that strikes N32W and dips 40W. There is almost continuous ore for 2,000 feet. Controls for ore emplacement included fissures, fractures, bedding, and a contact of quartzite and schistose slate. Local alteration includes sericitization, albite, chloritization, apatite, zircon and gouge. Local rocks include siltite, argillite, and quartzite; Middle Proterozoic Prichard Formation; northern Belt province. Local geologic structures include veins that are parallel to folds; brecciation. Shear zones strike N15-20W and dip 40-60SW.
Production statistics: Year: 1933 (period = 1904-1933), ore (accurate): ^34% Pb, 17.8% Zn, 2.7 ounces/ton Ag; 76 grams Ag metric ton; 34 weight percent Pb and 18 weight percent Zn.
