A former hardrock quarry first operated from the early 1920s.

The quarry was located in a small volcanic neck (diatreme) and has been mostly reclaimed and the areas surrounding the quarry are now used for factories and light industrial use.

Ready Mix acquired the quarry in 1961 and operations ceased circa 1985, when it was proposed that the quarry be used as a tip and be rehabilitated.

Formerly known for abundant plant microfossils found in carbonaceous siltstone breccia.
