A gold claim reported active in 1881.
W.D. Campbell in "Notes on a Pseudomorphous Form of Gold" suggests that a specimen of gold from the Evening Star Claim at the Waiotahi Creek, is of the form apparently that botryogen formed by the decomposition of pyrites.
"The occurrence of gold pseudomorphous crystals has not been hitherto observed, I believe, so that this specimen, which was obtained from a white clay, taken from a leader in a drive of the Evening Star Claim, at the Waiotahi Creek, Thames, is of great interest. It is reinform-shaped, about ½ inch in length, and covered with minute crystals and filaments studded sparsely with minute irregular-shaped grains of a yellowish-brown mineral, insoluble in acids which is probably zircon".
It should be noted that there does not appear to be a mining claim called Evening Star on the Thames gold field. Named "Star" claims include, North Star, Golden Star, New Middle Star, Star of England, and Star of England Extended.
