A former surface and underground Cu-Ag-Au mine located in the center S½S½ sec. 15, T1N, R15E, about 3 miles NE of Globe, on provate land. The shaft and numerous adits lie 0.3 miles SW of the top of Buckeye Mountain; the adits are along the east and west sides of a canyon opening into Copper Gulch. Produced 1901-1957. Operated in the 1910's and 1920's by United Globe (Old Dominion Co.); and by Mr. H. P. Hinton (1957).
Mineralization is the Buckeye vein. The ore zone strikes N65E and dips 80NW.
The most extensive work on the Buckeye-Black Oxide vein are adjacent to the Buckeye shaft which was sunk by the United Globe Mines Co. on the outcrop in the gulch west of Buckeye Mountain. On the west side of the gulch, three adits explore the vein for about 1,400 feet SW of the shaft. There are also three adits that were driven northeastward from the east side of the gulch. No records of these latter adits are available.
The available, incomplete, records of the Buckeye workings show that the vein fault is a conjugate system of fractures, rather than a well-defined regular break.
On the 100 level both walls of the vein are in Troy quartzite. The 200 level extends 1,800 feet SW of the shaft and about 1,000 feet NE. In the vicinity of the shaft the level is between the offset upper contacts of the diabase sill and Troy quartzite. The hanging wall of the vein is diabase and the footwall is quartzite. Father southwest both walls are quartzite, and northeast of the shaft are diabase. For most of its extent, the 400 level, the deepest level of the mine, was driven in the diabase sill.
Workings total 914.4 meters in length and 152.4 meters in depth. Copper production for the mine was probably included in the data for the Old Dominion Mine.
