Fossil wood mineralization.
"At Motta, a hamlet of Costigliole d'Asti, and at Govone, Cuneo (Central Piedmont, Italy), the seasonal floods of the Tanaro River have brought to light strips of underlying geological strata. In the surfaced fossil woods, 13 mineral species have been identified through SEM-EDS, microRaman and PXRD. Since Asti is a province poor in minerals, some of them (antofagastaite, celestine, copper, dolomite, pyrite, rozenite, and rutile) represent the first provincial discovery. The antophagastaite characterization in the fossil wood stranded at Motta di Costigliole d'Asti is the third discovery in the world after the reports to the type and cotype localities."
