Shale and sandstone are the rocks lining the cliffs around the beach and headland and are approximately 245 million years old.
Triassic fossils are found in the eroding rocks around the cliffs. Plant fossils are very abundant in the shale and with some in the sandstone.
On the south side of the beach when it’s low tide large fossilised track ways of what are believed to be caused from arthropods. These are visible on the rock platforms.
