Izier (in Walloon Izire) is a section of the Belgian town of Durbuy located in the Walloon Region in the province of Luxembourg.
Between Izier and Ozo, the Ozo menhir constitutes the northern extremity of the Megaliths of the Wéris domain. All the Wéris megaliths date from the end of the Neolithic, at the beginning of the 3rd millennium.
From the Gallo-Roman period, Izier notably delivered two bronze statuettes, one representing Hercules and the other a small ibex.
In the Middle Ages, Izier was a lordship dependent on the Land of Durbuy, part of the Duchy of Luxembourg. Founded before 1130, the church of Izier is dedicated to Saint-Germain-l'Auxerrois and depended on Xhignesse. She was behind the founding of the churches of Villers-Sainte-Gertrude and Harre, as well as the Ozo chapel.
Izier was a commune in its own right before the merger of the communes in 1977, but had only been part of the province of Luxembourg since 1839. Before that, it was part of the department of Ourthe. It was created under the French regime by the union of the localities of Fermine, Izier, Jéhonheid, Les Rochettes, Malboutée, Pont le Prêtre and Vieux Fourneau. In 1826, Jéhonheid was transferred to Ferrières in exchange for Ozo taken from Bomal.
The section is today made up of Malboutée, Vieux-Fourneau, Fermine, Long Trixhes, Pont-le-Prêtre, Ozo and Izier.
