A former underground Au-Cu-Ag-Zn mine located on the slope above Providence. Produced 1906-1942. Includes the Belcher claim. Started 1906.
Mineralization is the Red Rock vein a 2½ foot (0.9 meter) wide vein of gold ore (Mammoth-Belcher-Red Rock vein) with a tabular ore body hosted in fissile, weathered amphibolite schist (Lower Unit Spud Mountain Volcanics) & follows the schist, strikes N.35ºE. & dips steeply SE. No alteration noted. Ore control was faulting and shearing. Associated rock units are the Big Bug Pluton and associated dikes.
Area structures include veins mostly parallel to foliation in Precambrian rocks, which trends N25E.
Workings include several tunnels; a 235 foot deep shaft on the Belcher claim and tapped by the lowest Red Rock tunnel. Ore assayed at $4 to $5 Au/T (period values).
