Small amounts of specimen-grade blue celestite (SrSO4) have been produced over a long period of time from the Strontium King #2 property in the SE 1/2 section 22, T. 23 S., R. 07 E. (plate 16) (data from DOGM unpublished mine permit files). Crawford and Buranek (1952) mention specimens from this property being seen in collections as early as 1929. Crawford and Buranek described the main geologic occurrence as pale-blue euhedral crystals in veins and veinlets along orthogonal fracture sets cutting the sandstones of the Jurassic Entrada Formation. Individual veins are up to 2 feet (0.6 m) across and are exposed in an area 100 feet by 100 feet (30 m by 30 m). The other celestite occurrence is 700 feet (210 m) north and consists of veinlets up to 4 inches (10 cm) thick in fracture sets in the Entrada Formation.
