Outcrop of Mecca Quarry Shale member, which is one of several members of the Linton Formation (a geologic formation in Indiana).
The Linton Formation "is the lower formation in the Carbondale Group, and includes six named members, "which, in ascending order, are the Seelyville Coal, Coxville Sandstone, Colchester Coal, Mecca Quarry Shale, Velpen Limestone, and Survant Coal Members, and unnamed units of sandstone, shale, and clay" (Wikipedia).
The Mecca Quarry Shale extends throughout the Midwest from Indiana and Kentucky to Nebraska and Oklahoma.
