One of many mineshafts at Ore’s Close Farm explored by Wessex Cave Club in 1938 revealed over 350 m of natural passage. The exact location is lost as the field was bulldozed flat in 1952.
Believed to be "...one of the biggest lead mines on Mendip, if not the largest" - see refs.
Has previously been named “Orr's Close”.
Currently (2020) 1:25,000 shows “Oars Close”!
