Lead–zinc orebodies in this area occur as stratiform, lenticular, and steeply dipping veins inside the NW-trending F1 and F2 faults, as well as in the interlayer fracture zones.
The Zhugongtang deposit, hosted by Devonian to Permian carbonate rocks, comprises major ore bodies that can be divided into three types: stratiform, steeply dipping veins, and lenticular. The steeply dipping vein ore bodies occur along faults, the nearly bedded ore bodies occur in interlayer fracture zones, and the lenticular ore bodies occur in dissolution pores. Eight mineralization zones (Ⅰ to VIII), including 92 ore bodies, have been identified in the area of the Zhugongtang deposit. The largest ore body (I-1), in the F1 fault zone, is 2300 m long and 300 m wide, 0.63–64.65 m thick, and has an average grade of 2.95 wt% Pb and 8.83 wt% Zn. Ore bodies in the Zhugongtang deposit contain>3.5 Mt of Zn–Pb ore with grades of 0.03–12.19 wt% Pb and 0.09–35.04 wt% Zn. The Zhugongtang ores also contain trace amounts of Ge, Se, Cd, Cu, and Ag metals, likely hosted by sphalerite and galena. Gold symbiosis is evident in some ore bodies.
