During a geological hike July 2022 in the mountains in the northernn part of the Evje og Hornnes municipality, a minor hilltop north of lake Ormehommtjønn was climbed, and turned out to be a relatively large pegmatite outcrop.
The hilltop consists of two parallel ridges (S-N) with a trench-like middle section. The higher parts of the hilltop all consist of a light-coloured, relatively fine-grained pegmatite, while the middle section consists of steeply dipping amphibolite (70-80 degrees E). This suggests that there might be two parallel orientated pegmatite dykes separated by amphibolite.
The similarity of this locality with many of the pegmatites of the Evje-Iveland district is striking.
The entire area between this hilltop and the start of the track near lake Nordtjønn (58.658006,7.781443) is laced with hundreds, if not thousands of minor pegmatite dykes and migmatites. Many of them are short, but a good number of them have a striking length of 10-20 m, and longer ones have also been observed. Width of the veins varies from a few cm to 10-30 cm, rarely more than that.
Occassionaly the pegmatites show some symmetry, with accumulations of massive quartz in the middle.
Mineralogically seen the pegmatites are as far as could be seen during a short visit of no interest whatsoever.
