An approximately 1.6 km long limestone/marble quarry, registered by the NGU as Akselberg.

Hustad Kalk og Marmor was founded in 1948 by Kjell Steinsvik, producing limestone from the Tverfjell quarry in Fræna (Møre og Romsdal) for neutralizing the acid marshes in the area, making them suitable for agricultural purposes. In 1965 his son, Sturla Steinsvik took over the company.
In 1970 the production was expanded to include the production of calcite for the use as filler in asphalt, painting, mortar etc. The use of the calcite in agriculture became of lesser importance.
In 1977 the company initiated a close cooperation with Omya AG, at that time a world leader in the production of limestone-based fillers and pigments. The company was subsequently split up into a production section and a processing section, the Hustad Kalk AS and Hustad Marmor AS respectively.
In 1979 the production of Hydrocarb M, a carbonate-based pigment developed by Omya, became a major focus area for the company. This acid-neutral pigment became the standard in the paper industry, both as filler and as coating. This led to a significant reduction of energy use in the paper industry.
In 1996 Hustad Kalk AS bought up Minnor AS, a bancrupt company owned by Norcem and Elkem, located in Drag in the Tysfjord area, and subsequently founded Norwegian Crystallites for the production of ultra-pure quartz products.
In 1997 Hustad Kalk AS founded Brønnøy Kalk AS for the production of calcite-marble at Akselberg in Velfjord, in the Brønnøy municipality.
By 2004 Hustad Marmor AS had become world leader in the production of pigments for use in the paper industry, with a sale of 3 Mt/a of Hydrocarb M.
In 2007 Norsk Mineral AS was founded, a joint venture of Hustad Kalk AS and Hustad Marmor AS, with Omay AG becoming owner of the remaining shares of Hustad Kalk AS in Hustad Marmor AS. That same year Sturla Steinsvik was awarded The Royal Norwegian Order of Saint Olav for his contribution to norwegian business life.

Three analyzed samples showed dolomite percentages from 2,93 to 7,09%.
