Steinbruch Weingartner (Weingartner-Bruch; Steinbruch Harmannsdorf), Gars am Kamp, Bezirk Horn, Niederösterreich, Österreich
Large active gneiss quarry located NW of Harmannsdorf (which belongs to the municipality of Burgschleinitz-Kühnring). The gneis is a platy orthogneiss (Biteš gneiss) according to the literature, although Kolitsch (2024) expresses some doubts about the ortho character of the gneiss and suggests that it could be a paragneiss.
Owned by Weingartner GmbH.
Nearby is a smaller abandoned quarry, which extracted the same gneiss type. It seems to have been abandoned around 2020-2022.
