Fosdalen is one of the many medium-sized mines and was Norway's largest underground mine. The mine operated in the period 1906-1997 and employed up to 587 workers in 1956/57. The total production was 35 million ton ore, resulting in 16 million ton magnetite concentrate. The ore contained minor quantities pyrite and chalcopyrite.

The main shaft was 1200 m deep, and the tower is protected as cultural heritage site. The coordinates are given for this tower (Berg et al., 2016).
