The Schumacher Stone Company was located south of Pandora at the SW¼ of SE¼ of Section 20, Township 1S (Riley Township), Range 8E. The quarry began operation in 1904 and the company was officially incorporated in 1924. The quarry was operated by C.C. Hilty, Eli Aaron Hilty, Amos Schumacher, Peter Schumacher, and Alfred Brauen. The Schumacher Family owned and operated the quarry until 1953, when it was sold to Glenn J. Pierman (Lima News, January 15, 1953), who also owned Northwest Materials and a controlling interest in the National Lime & Stone Company. The quarry was closed shortly after Pierman’s death in 1957 and is now in a flooded state (Lima News, May 23, 1957). The locality is now a mobile home resort called Spring Lake.
This locality was not mentioned in either edition of Ernie Carlson’s Minerals of Ohio book, nor was it mentioned in any geological reports by the state of Ohio. The closest quarry with similar mineralized zones as the Schumacher Stone Co. Quarry is the Bluffton Stone Quarry located approximately five and half miles southwest of Pandora (Vasichko, 2018).
