Structure: N20w. Post-Mineral Faults Cut Vein
Alteration: Silicification
Deposit: Vein 1 to 7 feet thick, averaging 4 feet and consists of quartz and silicified rhyolite. Vein dips 40 W and flattens at depth and reverses to 25e. The best ore is chalky in appearance with no sign of mineralization. To the west the vein has been cut by a fault, and the displaced segment has been lost of eroded. The gold is finely divided and disseminated.
Deposit type: Epithermal vein, Comstock
Development: Most active from 1918 to 1931; small resurgence from 1937 to 1939
Geology: The olympic vein occurs in rhyolite and trachyte covered in places with tuff. Vein filling consists of quartz and more or less silicified rhyolite. The quartz shows evidence of having been derived from the replacement of calcite. Rhyolite and trachyte flows underlie the lake beds of the esmeralda fm.
