Köppen climate type:
A former Au-Bi-W-Cu-Pb mine located 8,750 feet N80E of Skinner Spring, and on the NW end of the Clifton Hills, on Bureau of Land Management-administered land. Discovered in 1905. First produced in 1914, then in 1917 & 1931. Owned by Floyd Meyers (100.00%), Ibapah, Utah 84034 (1976). MRDS database stated accuracy for this location is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a replacement deposit hosted in limestone. The ore body is tabular in form, strikes N15E, dips 40NW at a thickness of 18.0 meters, a width of 30 meters and a length of 60.0 meters. The primary mode of origin was hydrothermal activity. Primary ore control was lithology (favorable, coarsely-crystalline, bleached limetone beds) and secondary was faulting. The wallrock alteration is intense. Local alteration involved bleaching, argillitization & chloritization. Associated rocks include Pliocene volcanic breccia (agglomerate). Local rocks include Pennsylvanian and Permian sedimentary rocks in western Utah.
Geologic structures include regional basin & range terrain and local N-S normal faults (9 normal faults striking N-S, dipping 30-70E, with a throw of 50 feet left (?)).
Workings include underground openings with a length of 152.4 meters and are comprised of 5 shafts to surface with a vertical range of workings at 75 feet, plus some pits and a second 45 foot adit to the E. Crosscuts and shallow winzes or inclined shafts were sunk.
Production information: Several small shipments of high-grade ore were made in 1914 and 1917. One shipment of 4.33 tons of concentrates contained 12.43% Bi and $9.00 of Au/ton (period values). Less than 150 units of WO3 were recovered.
