Rock hosting the twinned calcites is the Jeffersonville Limestone, a coarse grained, thickly bedded, fossiliferous limestone of the lower to middle Devonian (420-380 Ma). As of 2019, the formation has been mined out to the current limits of the quarry, which started operation in 1961. Located on the southern edge of Anderson.
