Graham claim


A Mn occurrence/group of 3 claims located in the West-central sec. 33, T17N, R13W (???), G&SRM, about 6 miles NW of Alamo, in an arroyo. Owned by W.J. Graham, Craig & Creighton of Phoenix (formerly owned by Carr, Rider & Bendervald). Started about 1918. This locality is not listed in the USGS MRDS database. NOTE: The T&R values for this locality, as presented in Wilson & Butler are in error, placing the claims in the Hualapai Mountains versus the Artillery Mountains.

Two deposits occur within these claims. One lies on a small hill at an approximate altitude of 2,100 feet. The second is about 250 feet above the arroyo and ¼ mile East of it and is cut by the arroyo, but the greater part extends west of it to the base of the mesa and is partly covered by basalt talus. The first deposit is exposed for about 250 feet on its strike with an average width of 50 feet. A block of ore has been faulted down for a few feet from the main mass, and the whole deposit appears to lie along a major fault which brings schist and granite rocks adjacent to the younger sandstone and basalt. East of the deposit and about 75 feet above it is a breccia composed of fragments of quartzite and schist that is stained and in places cemented by iron and manganese oxides. Red and brown, slightly indurated sandstones underlie the manganese bed and dip about 15ºSW.

The deposit on the West side of the arroyo can be traced for 1,000 feet and is from 50 to 400 feet wide. It lies on the surface as a shell from 1 to 3 feet thick.

Both deposits replace sandstone beds and are now completely exposed except for surface debris.
