Distaff claim; Chester claim
A former Ag-Pb-Cu-Au-Zn-Mo occurrence/mine located in the NE¼NW¼NE¼ sec. 3, T23N, R18W, G&SRM, about ¾ mile east of Chloride and 1 mile NE of Silver Hill, on Bureau of Land Management administered land. The property is comprised of 2 claims (Distaff and Chester - Distaff and Distaff Extension in USGS Bulletin 397). Previous owners and operators include S.C. Vice; Black and Taylor (1941); Huffman and Ray (1937); C.C. Roaselau (1935); Charles Sherman (1921); Phil Smith (1920), and E.G. Patterson. Operated 1901 to 1948. The USGS MRDS database stated accuracy for this locality is 100 meters.
Mineralization is a vein deposit hosted in schist, gneiss and granite. The ore body strikes N-S and dips 90 at a width of 0.91 meter and a length of 1,524 meters. The mineralization is associated with a Late Cretaceous porphyry intrusion. The oxidation zone is 200 to 250 feet deep. Oxidation of sulfides is only partial. Precambrian schistosity strikes N30ºE. Veins, fissures and dikes strike NW to NNW regionally. The vein parallels schistosity of the host rock. Associated rocks include the Neoproterozoic Ithaca Peak granite. Local rocks include Early Proterozoic granitic rocks.
Workings include underground openings with a length of 609.6 meters and an overall depth of 80.77 meters and comprised of a 265 foot shaft with levels at 50, 120, 200, and 250 feet. The shaft connects with a tunnel from the South at the 150 foot level.
