Vote for your favorite mineral in #MinCup26! - Sphalerite vs. Anorthite
Both zinc ore Sphalerite and calcium plagioclase feldspar Anorthite have perfect cleavage that will split cleanly if you hit them with a hammer, but only one can claim a larger split of your votes!

A former small underground Cu-Ag-Au-W-Mo mine group located south of center in the NE¼SE¼SW¼ sec. 21, T.17S., R.16E. in the low foothill area adjoining the Cuprite Mine on the north, 7 miles NE of Helvetia (Empire Mts 15 minute topo map), on land of unknown status. Additional names associated with this property (individual claims ?): Collins; Herring; Humpal.

Mineralization is sporadic and relatively weak copper carbonates and minor sulfides, pyrite, scheelite, and powellite in small, irregular pyrometasomatic deposits in Cretaceous brecciated conglomerates and faulted Paleozoic limestones in contact with dikes and stocks of Laramide quartz monzonite. The host rock units are the Gardner Canyon Formation Conglomerate and the Glance Conglomerate. Ore control was brecciated conglomerate and faulted limestone at the contact with quartz monzonite.

The Copper Aleck deposit is an ore bed in white limestone. It dips to the ENE, has a known extent by croppings of about ¼ mile northwestward to the Nevada claim, and is associated with fine-grained intrusive granite which is apparently the principal mineralizer of the area.

Local structures include NE-NW-trending shears adjacent granitics.

Assays up to 10% Cu. USBM samples: 1: 0.13% WO3, 0.10% CuU; 2: 0.20% WO3, 0.26% Cu; 3: 0.076% WO3, 0.26% Cu.

Workings in the group are 2 shallow shafts and adits to 30.48 meters deep. Possibly some 100 tons of hand-picked copper ore averaging 3-5% Cu were produced prior to 1900 and 3 tons of 1%+ WO3 ore were produced in 1955.
