A former small surface and underground Mn mine located in North-central sec. 36, T.11S., R.2E. (protracted), in the Sheridan Mountains, 9 miles NW of Gu Achi. Discovered 1955. Owned by De Silva & Allinio.
Mineralization is a replacement deposit with sinuous ore masses including psilomelane and wad with pyrolusite, minor manganite, and calcite stringers in depth, in irregular replacements in folded and partly marblized Paleozoic limestone along a bedding plane fault above a rhyolitic porphyry intrusion. The ore zone is from surface to 45.72 meters depth to bottom and a thickness of 3.66 meters. Ore control was localization along a bedding plane fault and often extends into tension fractures in the walls. Post-ore faulting is evident. Psilomelane grades to pyrolusite with depth. The marblized beds are about 40 feet stratigraphically above a rhyolite porphyry intrusion.
Local structures include the folding and warping of the limestone; bedding plane fault.
Workings include a surface stope, shaft and inclined workings to a depth of 30.48 meters and length of 121.92 meters. The stope is 40 feet high. Some 2,700 long tons of Mn ore averaging about 30-40% Mn were shipped in 1939-1946 and 1954-1956.
