A former Au-Ag-Mo-Pb occurrence/mine located in the NE¼SE¼ sec. 23, T19W, R20N, G&SRM, about 1 mile SE of Oatman, about 0.6 mile S of Elephant Tooth, on private land. Operated as part of the Tom Reed Mine. The USGS MRDS database accuracy is not stated. NOTE: The USGS MRDS file presents a latitude value of 36.00001 that is in error. It should be 35.00001, and is presented as such in this Mindat file.
Mineralization is a vein deposit on the Big Jim-Aztec ore shoot, Tom Reed vein. It is a NNW to WNW-trending vein and fault system hosted in Tertiary andesite. The ore body strikes N30W and dips 85E at a thickness of 91.44 meters, width of 6.1 meters and length of 274.32 meters and with a depth-to-bottom of 182.88 meters and depth-to-top of 91.44 meters. This mine workings are on the an ore shoot 900 feet long by 10 to 20 feet wide and extended from the Mallery fault, near the 300 foot level to below the 600 foot level. The Mallory fault cuts the Big Jim-Aztec ore shoot. Ore control was solution channels paralleling a NW and SW fracture system. Associated rocks include Pliocene Rhyolite (Oatman Andesite;Gold Road Latite). Local rocks include Middle Miocene to Oligocene volcanic rocks.
Workings include underground openings with an overall depth of 213.36 meters and comprised of a shaft. The Aztec shaft connects with the Big Jim, Bald Eagle and Grey Eagle.
